Providing Quality Language Instruction in Maryland, Virginia,
and Washington, D.C. Schools
Since 1988

About

The emphasis of our instruction is on functional communication-speaking, listening, and understanding. Teachers are not asked to stop teaching grammar, but they are asked not to use grammar as the focus of their instruction.

For example, the focus of a lesson would not be on teaching the past tense, but rather on describing a past event, such as recounting what you did last weekend. In this way, past tense skills are gradually introduced and customized to each student's learning style. Moreover, emphasis on dialogue and role-play makes classes more active, motivates students to participate, and helps them to focus on practical foreign language skills that they can use outside the classroom.

Learning Objectives

The main objectives of our foreign language programs are to help students to:
  • Progress toward acquiring functional verbal and auditory skills (speaking and listening comprehension);
  • Receive an introduction to the basics of reading and writing in a foreign language (appropriate to their grade level);
  • Understand and appreciate different cultures and differences among people; and
  • Increase their personal, social, and occupational opportunities through a knowledge of different languages and cultures.
